Diwali is a Hindu festival celebrated every year as the festival of lights. It is a five days long festival which begins on Dhanteras and ends on Bhai dooj. It falls every year on the fifteenth day of the Kartik month. It is considered that Goddess Lakshmi makes a visit to each house on the night of Diwali which is why everyone lights their homes with diyas and lanterns to welcome the Goddess. In return, Goddess gives her blessings to her devotees for a healthy and prosperous life. Diwali is a beautiful festival that brings family and friends together.
A sure way of welcoming your guests in your home is by creating warmth with diyas and lanterns. You can enhance your interiors from your door to the dining table with the following decorative tips.
1. Add a touch of ‘GLITTER’
Nowadays you find a wide range of vases in gold and silver finishes. Our personal favorite is gold. Fairy lights thrown inside transparent vases can add to a beautiful magical ambiance that can be placed on your dining or entrance console.
2. Curtains
Some LED lights can go behind your sheer curtains and create indirect glowing light. Also, some battery operated lights (Philips Hue) can be kept in corners of the house, hidden behind the furniture or curtain creates a magical hue.
3. Cushions
Mixing your existing cushions with a traditional mix of cushion covers which has got mirror or embroidery work adds to the ethnic look of your house during the festive season. It completely transforms your space with very little investment.
4. Fragrance
Other than traditional diyas these days you also get a lot of scented candles that can be kept on a tray and placed anywhere in the house. Aside from the festive fragrance, you will also get a beautiful glow as it gets darker outside.
5. Decorating the entrance
Rather than traditional rangoli one can also create floating rangolis with flowers and Diya arrangements in a beautiful antique looking vessel. Fairy lights can be added around the door with some real or artificial flowers embedded in it.
6. Dressing the table
Diwali is incomplete without sweets and goodies made traditionally at home. After pooja the entire family along with friends sit together to celebrate hence, the dining table becomes the focal point. Put a runner and table mats in ethnic style. Also, arrange a lot of flowers and candles around it. Make sure that the cookware also has some detailing in it. It can add to the glitter as mentioned in the previous point.
